Hunting
    Whitetail Deer hunting in South Carolina starts August 15th and runs until January 1st. The long deer hunting season offers a lot of different opportunities. The deer herd goes through many changes during the 5 months of hunting season. We start with bachelor groups of velvet bucks in August over food plots and feeders. September the harvest of does start on the 15th of the month. October starts with acorns and finishes with the pre-rut. Then comes November and the rut is in full swing.  Woods consist of swamp, river bottoms, oaks, hardwoods and planted pines.

Location
  Longwood Hammock Outfitters is located off of Interstate I-95, Exit 57 approximately 12 miles West on Highway 64, Williams, South Carolina, Colleton County.  One of the top trophy producing counties in the last 5 years according to The Department of Natural Resources. Our herd of deer is so large that DNR allows no limit on bucks and large amounts of doe tags. We do limit our buck harvest so young buck can get 3 to 4 years of age before harvesting. The lodge sits on the edge of the Little Salkahatchee Swamp. 

South Carolina offers the longest hunting season in the United States.  General gun, Muzzle Loader and Bow Season starts August 15^th of each year and ends January 1^st. 

August 15^th thru Sept 1^st Bucks are still in Velvet.

Sept 1^st thru October 1^st Bachelor groups of bucks are splitting up.

October 1^st thru November 1^st Pre Rut has began. Bucks begin sparring and determine pecking order.  Grunting and Rattling become very effective.

November 1^st thru December 1^st The Rut is in full swing.  Bucks are chasing Does.  The Bucks also come by the feeders and food plots on a daily basis looking for Does.                                                                                

December 1^st thru January 1^st The Rut is winding down.  Some Bucks are still breeding young does.  Most of the Bucks will start hitting the feeders and food plots very hard trying to replenish body weight lost during the month long rut.
